Capstone Expedition for Outdoor Leaders
Provides students the opportunity to apply and demonstrate their leadership and organizational skills to plan, prepare, and participate in an ambitious multi-day outdoor adventure expedition. Students design and execute a 5 to 8 day expedition involving one or more of the outdoor skills proficiencies they have developed through their prior coursework and experience in Adventure Education and Outdoor Leadership skills classes. These skills may include backpacking, wilderness camping, mountaineering, technical climbing, whitewater paddling, skiing, or any combination of these skills.
Special Requirement: This course involves moderate to high physical activity and the ability to be active and in the outdoors for up to 8 days and nights in remote environments including deep forests, alpine environments, desert conditions, or large wilderness lakes and/or swift and turbulent rivers. Minimum age requirement 18 years of age for courses involving overnight stays. Off-campus field trips. All students must submit the ADE/OLP Health History and Physical Examination Attestation Form, completed and signed by a physician, verifying medical clearance for full participation. Students assume any travel and permit/pass costs associated with field trips.
